Job
Summary:
This position is responsible for verifying patient insurance benefits with insurance companies and documenting the information in the computer system. This includes updating information received from patients, employers, and physician offices in the computer system to ensure correct billing information is obtained prior to the time of service.
Essential Functions:
Obtain insurance eligibility and benefits information and obtain required authorizations for patients.
Provides superior customer service to patients, families, general public, and co-workers by consistently demonstrating BMC Service Standards.
Review all insurance eligibility responses and communicate with the patient and their physician as needed regarding these responses or to obtain correct information.
Works with clinical staff to ensure authorizations cover services needed.
Estimate cost of service and the patients' responsibility, analyze and document the patients' account history and refers patients with questionable insurance coverage to the Patient Financial Counselors.
Is a knowledgeable resource to patients/customers, striving to build patient/customer loyalty and confidence.
Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
Education and/or
Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent and two or more years of customer service experience required. Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and telephone skills.
Bilingual in English and Spanish, previous admitting, billing, collection, and/or insurance verification experience and previous healthcare experience preferred.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated computer experience, preferably in a Windows-based environment.
Excellent telephone and written communication skills as well as listening skills and ability to demonstrate tact and patience with callers.
High attention to detail.
Ability to multi-task and work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to analyze and solve more complex problems that may require research and creative solutions and make sound decisions with limited supervision.
High level of skill in entering data into the computer while talking with callers.
Maintains highest standards of confidentiality. Display professional ethnical conduct.
Must be able to work alongside colleagues and be a collaborative team member.
Demonstrate a process improvement mindset ad self-driven approach with can-do attitude toward both internal and external customers.
