Job Description The Development Director oversees the development vision, planning and practices, and leads the development team.
This includes hiring, training, supervising, and measuring staff functions and success.
The Development Director is part of the executive team that oversees ministry direction, planning, and management.
This is a key position within the organization helping to lead our organization in fundraising excellence.
The right person will possess high leadership, organizational and relational skills, and have experience leading fundraising practices and teams with an emphasis in major gift fundraising.
Responsibilities Leadership Will be part of the executive team at Shepherd's House Ministries Participate in visioning and strategic planning for the broader organization Participate in preparing the annual budget for the organization and for the development department Participate in regular organizational meetings, events, retreats, conferences Lead and supervise the development team using Key Performance Indicators (KPI) Hire, manage, and evaluate the vendors that support fundraising and communications services Oversee and manage all development-related functions Lead the organization to grow a strong culture of stewardship Participate in organizational evaluation and lead in measuring all fundraising strategies and outcomes Individual Fundraising Lead the development of systems and processes that nurture donor relationships through the engagement process from acquisition, engagement, asking, thanking, and ongoing stewardship Develop and cultivate relationships with churches Engage a caseload of major donors (individuals, foundations, corporations, churches) Develop a major donor acquisition strategy that will generate new major donor prospects Assist the Executive Director with a portfolio of major donors and prospects Guide the Board in major donor engagement Fundraising Events Design and oversee an annual plan for fundraising events including small group gatherings, galas, radiothons, and other events Ensure the recruiting and coordinating of event volunteers, securing sponsorships, and designing programs Marketing & Communications Develop & implement the annual plan and goals for marketing and communications across platforms such as the website, direct mail, social media, and public communications Oversee all vendors that manage fundraising/marketing functions Oversee the website, marketing tools, publications, and media Grant Writing Will create and manage the annual grant writing plan for the organization Oversee all grant writing and ensure the organization achieves grant writing goals Oversee all grant reports to foundations Other Duties Design the annual fundraising plan, campaigns, strategies, and goals for the organization Work with the Executive Director, Board Staff, and Volunteers to successfully implement the fundraising plan and measure the effectiveness of the plan and outcomes.
Occasionally speak in churches, civic clubs, or other public venues The Development Director may also take on other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
Qualifications:
Must demonstrate mature Christian faith and align with our organizational mission and values Bachelor's degree in business, nonprofit management, or related area from a four-year college or university.
Five to ten years of related experience in development, specifically with major donor engagement.
Strong experience and understanding of budgets and financial concepts.
Ability and experience working with CRM systems (Customer Relations Management).
Excellent collaboration skills across departments to achieve goals.
Ability to effectively present information to public groups, conference attendees, and donors/sponsors during retreats, seminars, and webinars.
Ample use of computer skills such as word processing, report writing, project management, presentation creation/editing, working with databases and spreadsheets, and communication by e-mail.
